Motorists go the extra mile for the number plate of their choice [The Star]

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian motorists may be reluctant to pay their summonses but they will splurge a mind-boggling RM150mil every year for the number plate of their choice.
Records from the Road Transport Department showed that the highest bid was RM300,100 – for the number plate MCA 1 two months ago. The same bidder, Asset Nusa Sdn Bhd, also spent RM101,000 to acquire MCA 2.
The bid overtook the RM242,000 for TAY 1 last year. Prior to that, the record was held by a businessman who reportedly paid RM200,900 for TAN 1.
The JPJ website has listed out the bidders and amounts paid for the MCA 1 to MCA 9999 plates for vehicles registered in Malacca.
Among them were Noraini Abdul Ghapor, who spent more than RM19,000 on two numbers (RM14,444 for MCA 4 and RM4,888 for MCA 7777), and Tan Lay Kang, who forked out RM42,000 for three numbers (RM15,400 for MCA 8888, and RM13,300 each for MCA 3333 and MCA 9999).
Another is MCA 1949, purchased by the MCA for RM2,200 to symbolise the year the party was founded.
Duyong state assemblyman Gan Tian Loo from Malacca spent RM28,600 on MCA 5.
But it isn’t just the auspicious numbers that get the people’s attention.
A news report in 2004 noted that the plate TAH1 was bought for RM14,300 by someone who must have had a sense of humour.
Also, someone posted on a web forum several years ago that the most beautiful number plate he had seen was BBB 888 as it was designed like a piece of art.
Former Penang DAP strongman Gooi Hock Seng went around with MR 6001 to reflect his surname.
Some motorists are willing to hold off the purchase of their vehicles until they get the right number plate.
T. Manuel, who bid for 1988, said: “I waited a while and finally got it for only RM300.”
Another motorist, M. Phylis Mann, said she paid RM200 for the number 1798, which she said signified long-term prosperity.
In the past, JPJ had also released special licence plates for major events such as the 1998 Commonwealth Games and meetings of Asean and the Organisation of Islamic Conference.
“I will not be surprised if we get huge bids for plates starting with WWW – the acronym for the World Wide Web,” Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha said.
Another possible popular choice would be the Selangor plate carrying the letters BMW.
The JPJ has earned significant revenue from tenders of special numbers, which is its third highest source of revenue after the renewal of road tax and driving licences.
Currently there are 21,250,145 registered vehicles on the road.

Interesting how the Internet makes friends + Silly Pick-up Lines

Today, I came across a new friend that sent me a gentle Facebook Request to add as a Friend because she stumbled across my blog while looking for the lyrics to "Stand". Hope all of you remember that lovely song from July last year. Anyway, she was nice enough to compliment by saying it's an interesting blog that I have. Well, thank you very much to Lim Sue Yen for the sweet compliment. We're officially "Friends" now. =)

Ok, I meant to say that. Having thoughts about my blog led me to change the theme back to the old one as I felt it's much neater and sightful. I used to share fun articles but I'm running out of time (due to work, mind you) and also creative content to share. Anyway, tonight, I have a bit of time to kill while waiting for some other work to be done. Thought I'll just share something I just read.

Speaking of making friends online, The Star Newspaper had this to report:

Woman’s reputation smeared by Facebook friend
KUALA LUMPUR: A woman was shocked when she learned a mutual friend on Facebook had uploaded photographs of her on the social network site and accused her of spending all his money and then dumping him.
The man, who called himself Kelvin Tan, claimed that the woman Bong Xiew Mei, 22, of Kajang made him exceed his credit card limit, forcing him to be in debt with loan sharks.
Bong showed a print screen shot of Kelvin’s note which also claimed that they dated and had a sexual relationship, and that she dumped him after she had exhausted his money.
Victimised: Bong showing a picture of Kelvin to Chong at Wisma MCA.
“I don’t even know this guy. I have never met him in real life. I don’t understand why he had to post nasty and false things about me,” she said, adding that she thought he was a friend she met on one of Facebook’s game applications when she accepted his friend request last month.
“This incident has affected my life horribly,” the student said at a press conference at the Public Services and Complaints Department at MCA headquarters here yesterday.
She said Kelvin first posted her photograph on Sunday night and had since then uploaded four more.
Her boyfriend, Hung Yun Joo, 25, said about 200 people were tagged on each of the photographs.
“The guy added our family members and a lot of our close friends and tagged them on the photographs,” he said, adding that he and Bong had closed their Facebook accounts.
Hung, a businessman, said that they suspected the culprit was a close acquaintance as Kelvin had published Bong’s bank account number in one of his posts.
“He seems to know a lot of her personal information,” he said.
Bong lodged a police report at Batu 9 police station in Kajang on Monday.
Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Michael Chong said he had received 17 similar cases in the past two years where the victims were discredited on the Internet.
******************************************************
Weird huh? How some people can react this way. Don't worry, Sue Yen, I know you won't stalk me and do such things. Alright, I was just kidding about that.
Meanwhile, in Singapore, a woman was crushed to death because another woman was committing suicide. So, *SPLAT*, the poor fella ended up at the wrong place at the wrong time. Here's what it's all about:

Resident crushed by falling neighbour at apartment
A woman died in a freak accident in Singapore when she was crushed by her neighbour who fell from the building they were both living in, reported Sin Chew Daily.
Lau Fong Kien, 55, was crushed by Ng Sock Luan. The incident happened at a block of Bishan St 13 in Singapore on Monday.
Lau was a breast cancer survivor while Ng had been suffering from depression for two months and was on medication.
Lau’s sister Fong Chu said the victim was on her way back from her medical check-up at a Chinese medical centre.
“Normally, she (Fong Kien) would go back home before 10.30am with takeaway food for our mother.
“However, due to the huge crowd at the medical centre, Fong Kien was delayed. If she had been early or late by a minute, she would not have been at that spot at that time,” she said.
Ng’s husband Ting Thiam Ho said his wife attempted suicide twice but her condition had improved after she was twice admitted to the hospital for treatments.
“She had stopped talking about committing suicide. I do not understand why this happened,” he said.
In entertainment news, there's some other development. Chinese pop diva Faye Wong made a comeback with a series of concerts last year, the Universal Music Group is willing to offer her RM5mil to release a new album. At least that's what the Chinese dailies claim la.
China Press quoted a source from Universal Music as saying that based on Faye’s Asian pop queen status, each song would cost up to HK$1mil (about RM500,000).
Well, according to the Record Label, a new album that consists of 10 songs would cost Universal Music, Faye’s former recording firm, about HK$10mil (about RM5mil). WOW... banyak tu! Oh well, power of the "voice". That's why I still like her song "Red Bean" :P~
When the daily contacted Universal Music senior vice-president Duncan Wong Kim-to, he said the firm had interest in signing on Faye.
So, I do hope when I have kids, they should pick up Music like my passion. I would really wish that they are musically gifted and has the talent to also write music and produce them too. Even if they are not doing it at a professional level, I will always be glad that they can have a beautiful voice to sing or play musical instruments or even make magically allure to tunes.
Ok, time for some laughters with Pick-up lines I came across. Mind you, it's really for the adults. Here's the Just For Laughs segment for today:
And finally, the finale that can make you laugh till you drop on the floor and roll around bursting in laughters and tears. (Psst: I actually did that and when Michelle Hew asked what was wrong with me, I couldn't even stop laughing as I tried to read it to her.)

Check out the dumbest of them all...
And of course, credits goes out to... "Only In Malaysia" hehehehe =D

Job killing you? Stressed mob bosses seek help

Interesting article... gotta read and laugh while understanding their world as you get an insight. I'm a neuro-psychiatric patient too. So, I know how they felt.

REGGIO CALABRIA, Italy: The mafia boss was having a dreadful time dealing with loss. But he was not struggling with the loss of lives, or even the loss of his freedom.
"Doc, it's my hair," the mobster from the 'ndrangheta crime syndicate confessed to his psychiatrist in jail. "I'm afraid of losing my hair.
"And look at these spots on my arm. See them?" he half-pleaded as he rolled up a sleeve and thrust out his arm.
"But your hair is fine. Absolutely fine. And there aren't any spots," Dr. Gabriele Quattrone tried to reassure his patient, who had tied himself into a knot of anxiety over the hair he believed to be falling from his head and the imaginary blotches popping up all over his arms.
Quattrone is one of a tiny corps of psychotherapists who have treated Italian organized crime bosses or their family members. Patients include dons haunted by nightmares, turncoats tormented after ratting, wives left frigid by rigid codes of loyalty. In exclusive interviews with The Associated Press, granted on condition that the identities of the mobsters not be revealed in line with doctor-patient confidentiality, the doctors offered rare insights into the secretive, increasingly strung-out world of Italy's centuries-old criminal organizations.
Quattrone, a neuropsychiatrist, treated his jailed 'ndrangheta patient with tranquilizers and made some attempts at nurturing introspection.
"It's the stress of 20 years of being a fugitive, of going on trial," he told the man, a top boss in Reggio Calabria, the toe of Italy's boot.
"Yeah, I'm stressed, all right. I'm stressed because I'm innocent,'" the boss retorted.
These are indeed tense times for Italy's mobsters.
A growing police crackdown and a rebellion among businessmen expected to pay protection money have left some sons of organized crime families wrestling with self-doubt, unsure they are cut out to take their fathers' and grandfathers' places in the bloody, vengeful world of the mob.
Seeking help, however, is risky business: among mobsters, visiting a psychologist is a weakness you can pay for with your life. Palermo psychologist Girolamo Lo Verso recalled the case of a mobster's son who told another therapist at a public mental health facility: "'If my father knows I come here, he'll kill us."
"If you're a mafioso, and you're anxious, you're not trustworthy and you have to be eliminated," said Lo Verso. "A mafioso is paranoid about everything," trusting the mafia code of silence ("omerta") more than the medical code of patient confidentiality.
The state's war on organized crime has put hundreds of bosses behind bars, sometimes for decades, sorely testing the mental health of spouses, children and sometimes the mobsters themselves.
Quattrone, the head of neuropsychiatry at a Reggio Calabria hospital, was once summoned to an apartment building in an upscale neighborhood. An elevator, with no buttons and an armored door, led from the garage straight to an apartment with windows shuttered tight.
In the sprawling master bedroom, complete with inlaid swimming pool, lay the mafia boss' severely depressed wife. Doctor and patient looked into each other's eyes. The husband's presence made communication hard but the woman's gaze told Quattrone everything he needed to know.
"We understood each other," Quattrone said. "She was oppressed in her role as a mafioso's wife."
Diagnosis? Existential loneliness.
The wife was depressed because she could hardly ever get out of the house and had a driver and a car with tinted windows on the rare times she did. The psychiatrist prescribed anti-depressants and checked up on her for the next few months.
Quattrone scoffed at the notion her husband would ever consider psychotherapy himself. As Tony Soprano put it to his therapist in the TV show: "I understand therapy as a concept. But in my world it does not go down."
Lo Verso teaches at Palermo's University of Studies, which will soon offer a masters course in Mafia psychology, the first of its kind. The therapists draw psychological profiles from treatment of mobsters and their relatives, turncoat testimony in courtrooms, lawyers' dealings with Mafia clients, and countless pages of intercepted conversations between bosses that wind up in indictments.
Group therapy sessions conducted in prison also provide fodder for Lo Verso's research.
At group talk in Reggio Calabria's maximum-security San Pietro Prison, inmates turned up perfectly groomed — doused in cologne, hair neatly combed, nattily dressed — and sat in armchairs arranged in a circle, recalled Paolo Pratico, a Calabrian psychologist who organized three sessions.
The prisoners showed eagerness to earn "good conduct" points toward early release. But to a man, they refused to admit that the 'ndrangheta even existed. Rather, they insisted they were victims of a miscarriage of justice. If the mafia does not exist, they argued, how could they be convicted of mafia association?
Many mobsters stay silent when Quattrone visits them in prison. A few complain of nightmares. They see "terrifying" images, but not of the people they've killed. One jailed mobster's sleep was haunted by thoughts of his terminally ill 12-year-old daughter.
"I can't sleep because I hear the voice of my daughter," the mobster lamented. "It's not fair that I can't see her. I can't accept that."
Sociologist Alessandra Dino, who has interviewed wives of Cosa Nostra turncoats and pored over transcripts of turncoat testimony to prosecutors, believes few mobsters have "crises of conscience."
"They have a mechanism of neutrality, where deviance equals normality," said Dino, who teaches at Palermo's university. "Murder becomes philanthropic because it is somehow related to helping the group they belong to."
Lo Verso said he has concluded that "the mafioso identifies himself totally with Cosa Nostra, which is his family. He has no individuality."
The therapist recalled a woman who was leaving her Cosa Nostra husband. She came to him for a psychiatric evaluation in a bid to gain custody of the couple's children. The woman, in her 40s, was beautiful, elegantly dressed and accompanied by her lover.
The pair would go away to romantic hotels for the weekend and sleep in the same bed. The man would undress and get sexually aroused, but the woman kept her clothes on and never showed any sign of sexual excitement.
She had the Mafia hardwired inside her, Lo Verso concluded — noting that, like many Mafia wives, she was the daughter of a mob boss, well familiar with Cosa Nostra's code that the wife never betrays the husband. In short, she remained married to the mob, all the more striking because she suspected her husband of having a hand in her father's slaying.
Quattrone said over the last decade or two, he has seen a slight shift, from mobsters who would not have anything to do with psychologists to those who will consult them if they think the problem can somehow be "masked" as a physical illness.
A 'ndrangheta family from the Calabrian countryside came to Quattrone after their young daughter started having panic attacks. "She can't have a mental illness, she has to have a physical problem," the girl's mother and brother told him.
Quattrone ran a battery of tests, and did find an unrelated physical ailment.
"The family was very happy to hear she had something. ... Because if it's a mental illness, the family risks being seen as untrustworthy."
Alberto Cisterna, a prosecutor in the national anti-Mafia office in Rome, is a Calabrian whose schoolmates included future 'ndrangheta bosses. He is fascinated by the growing body of psychological studies of mobsters, since "psychology figures a lot" in persuading a boss to turn over evidence.
In the rugged Aspromonte mountains of Calabria, Cisterna said, paramilitary police go out every night looking for fugitive mobsters, often in their families' farmhouses.
"You don't go looking for them at high noon, you go at 4 a.m.," Cisterna said in an interview. "The kids are bundled up in blankets and put in the street ... Everything in the house gets turned upside down."
After repeated raids, Cisterna said, "the wife will either begin to hate the state, or they'll hate their husband who subjects them to this."
In Taurianova, a 'ndrangheta stronghold, students at a vocational high school discussed how the crime syndicate affects their lives. Daniela, a soft-spoken 16-year-old from the nearby town of Rizziconi, talked about a childhood friend, the son of lawyer now in prison on charges of murder and of belonging to the 'ndrangheta.
The boy often asks her to go to his house and keep him and his mother company.
"Sometimes he cries and cries and says, 'I don't want to end up like my father,'" Daniela said. - AP

Excitement is in the air

There's so much excitement in the air currently. Firstly, "Island in the Sky" had started it's production and the cast has also blend in well with the soundtracks. Even the theme song sounds so well, but I feel it should need more editing for a better impact Ummmph!

Secondly, "The Eric Factor" also started Season 3's 1st episode shoot. A cute music was included to "spice" the humor scene. I'm not gonna leak too much spoilers for both shows yet. So, stay tune. Hahaha

Here's something I'd leak instead. The "Christmas with Friends by Aubrey Suwito" is soon to be in-stores by mid November. Woohoo~! Here's a preview of the cover:

Aubrey Suwito's Christmas with Friends

The CD is available for advance orders and you can do it via the studio, Big Bash himself or you can also tumpang me. Hahaha.

The CD is RM28 each and if you want them to send via Pos Laju (4 cds max) is RM6 in Pen. M'sia or RM8 to the East. Or, if you can wait, you can go to all Cannanland Bookstores in mid-nov onwards.

I've already start preparing my Xmas list to see whom I will be sending it to. :P~

Oh well, speaking of festivity, I'd like to take this opportunity to wish all my friends who would be celebrating their Deepavali holidays. Awww... I miss Guna's dad's rendang already. Hahaha.

Wait... hold your horses. There's another festivity round the corner? Well, besides Christmas, it's of course CNY! Ya, some of you may think it's a little too early but the producers etc managed to talk to me while I did my Official Visits to many places including the Hospital! Yeah... talk about work and discuss at the same time. Phew...

Let's work backwards to see the schedule. CNY is in early Feb. Well, the Year of the Rabbit actually  begins on Lunar Feb 3rd to be precise. So... that means, the CDs or DVDs or all sorts of merchandises and promos will start at 1st Jan or so. (If you go to Sg Wang, you'll be surprised... directly after 25th Dec, well not just 26th Dec la, sometimes, even before Xmas they already start PLAYING CNY songs.)

That means, printing, packaging, censorship, rights and distribution and many more production work will be done by Dec 2010. That leaves us to actually start shoots for the MV and studio editing work right now in Nov 2010 as we speak. Alright, it sounds weird but I did start helping the Star Media fellas compose and play/hymn some tunes early last and this week already. I'm so in the festive mood, I wish it's already here.

Wonder if I could get people to do greetings on video. Or... some friends and those who willing to come together and sing a line or two to make into a nice montage for Xmas/CNY. That would be FUN!

Ok, I'll stop dreaming. This is Malaysia. Everyone is as shy and scare-dy-cat when it comes to asking anyone to do such things. But then again, it could be just people around me. Cos, the modern open people even start doing Flash Mob dances. So, what's stopping them from doing something which some may think it's pathetic or crazy or (eat free nothing to do meh? siaw ah?)... right, rampant runts are over. I could see if this really happen, it would be such a mood cheer for the charity people like orphanage and old folks home etc. Even for the normal public, it's festive aura boosting enough.

Again, back to earth. I'll just imagine and maybe... just maybe, it may come true. It's just Excitement in the air.

A reply to Tun Mahathir's atrocious blog post

Dr M - self-admitted racist
Valerie Mohan

I really don't understand how someone as intelligent as you can come up with statements that are so blatantly ignorant. I'm 25 years old, my grandparents came from Kerala and I only speak English and Malay. I've never been to India, don't speak the language and all I can say is tanah tumpahnya darahku.

How dare you talk about fair distribution when you and your cronies have amassed vast fortunes at the expense of others? I don't see you going out among the less fortunate Malays and equitably distributing your wealth! If I follow from what you wrote you didn't deserve a place at medical school which means you took the place of someone who better deserved it. Which is what is happening all over this country in every arena.

Its not racial issues that the people are most concerned about its a lack of competency that is perpetuated because of racial policies.

Malaysians would not care if the vast majority of the government were Malay if they were able to discharge their duties competently. If there were 10 doctors and only one was Malay I would go to him if he was best at his job. But we have idiots running this country (the government, the police, the MACC, the judiciary) to the ground and they happen to be a Malay majority so of course people are pissed.

Do you think Malaysians would be angry if the country was well run and everyone's rights were upheld just because it was run by a Malay majority. Take a serious look at the majority of politicians and the rest of the people running the country (non malays included) - they are morons! The government is in shambles, the police are seen as the enemy and the judiciary is a joke - you really think intelligent Malaysians are angry at the Malays in general?

We are angry at those in power because we cannot trust you to do what's in Malaysia's best interest, we don't feel safe in our own country, we have no freedom of expression because you need to keep us quiet in order to stay in power and we don't believe that when there is a crime commited you are actually to get to the bottom of it unless it serves your own interests.

This racially charged hate mongering has to stop, it's stupid and unnecessary.

The real issue is our country is badly run and yet the government insists on discriminitory policies that seems to ensure its continuity. Did you ever stop to think that the person who's place you took in medical school could have been the one to lead Malaysia the way it deserves? Maybe that merits discussion?

Dr M tells Malays: To be given handicaps is to ensure fairness

Mahathir Mohamad

I am not ashamed to admit that I cannot compete with the Chinese and Indian students when studying medicine. They had much better results than me and the other six Malay students for entry into the Medical College.

It is not shameful to lose out against them. Simply to catch up with them we need handicaps. To be given handicaps is to ensure fairness, not discrimination.

I would like to apologise to the students and others for failing to turn up to give the talk I had agreed to. I would also like to thank those who sent get well messages, fruits and flowers while I was in hospital in Melbourne.

Honestly I feel I have lost an opportunity to meet and talk to what may be the future leaders of Malaysia. For this reason I am writing down here what would have been the contents of my talk.

The suggested topic for my talk was, "Are we ready for 1 Malaysia: Does Race Still Play a Part?"

I will be frank but factual. My only interest is the country we all love. I am past self-interest.

First let me refer to the slogan "1 Malaysia".

Without the Government spelling out the precise meaning of 1 Malaysia, different people are giving their own interpretations which not only differ from each other but are in conflict with each other.

The Malays generally interpret 1 Malaysia to mean real adoption of the national language as the home language by every citizen as happens in other multiracial countries. They also expect the abolition of Chinese and Tamil schools and ensuring the private sector has a fair participation of Malays and other Bumiputeras.

The Chinese and Indians interprete 1 Malaysia to mean amendments to the constitution to eliminate provisions for the special treatment of the Malays and their protection by the Rulers, removal of the quota for Malays in the Civil Service, termination of the NEP, termination of the 30 per cent quota for Malays and indigenous people in business, termination of the quota for awards of licences, contracts and APs. All awards to be on a competitive basis and open to all irrespective of race. They also expect perpetuation and maintenance of Chinese and Indian schools by the Government.

These two interpretations of 1 Malaysia admittedly are by the more extreme groups. The more moderate ones from both sides are milder in their expectations but their minimum intetrpretations still provide irreconcilable conflicts. 1 Malaysia clearly means different things to the different races.

This is the present position and it is obvious that race still play a very important role.

Question: It is now more than 50 years since independence. For how long do the Malays expect to be treated as special and different from the other citizens?

Answer: For as long as the Chinese and Indians prefer to be identified with their countries of origins. For as long as they want to keep their home languages and their schools.

Question: The so-called social contract were made a long time ago. We were not involved and we cannot be bound by it forever. When can we ignore the social contract and draw up our own social contract?

Answer: When everyone agrees to throw out the old social contract and replace it with a new one.

This will take a long time. As the new contract will be between races, racial factors would be included. Unless both sides agree to give up their races' own rights as spelt out in the first contract i.e. the preservation of own home languages and schools etc. the rights of the indigenous races to their special position etc must remain a part of the new social contract.

It is not certain that each would not demand for more than what they got under the old contract. It is likely there would be no agreement and no contract. Ths would lead to perpetual conflicts.

Question: So there will be no solution. The racial divisions and conflicts will remain.

Answer: In Vision 2020 one of the objectives is to create a bangsa Malaysia.

The belief at that time was that if Malaysia becomes a fully developed country, it would become very prosperous.

This prosperity would be fairly shared between the races. There would be less jealousy between them. There would also be less fear of any race being dominated by any other race.

The political cooperation between the races would also be made more meaningful as loyalty to the country would override other loyalties. In fact non-racial parties would be the trend.

It would take a long time perhaps - depending on fair wealth distribution. But once it takes off the pace will increase.

Malaysians of all races would be so proud of their country and its great achievements that the desire to be linked with other countries would be much diminished if not disappear altogether (as happens in prosperous multi-racial countries like the US - where the German, Eisenhower led the war against Germany. Eisenhower was American first and his country of origin was irrelevant to him).

The Malaysians at that stage would be Bangsa Malaysia first and always. The thing to do now is to ensure prosperity for the country and its fair distribution. Removing current rights of any of the races at this moment will only lead to racial conflicts which would obstruct prosperity.

Question: There are Malays in the opposition who condemn the NEP as unfair discrimination.

Answer: There are also Chinese and Indians who appreciate what the Malays have done and support the NEP. They are not so vocal for obvious reasons.

One should look at the Malays who condemn the NEP. If they are politicians or supporters of certain parties their views are motivated by a desire to get Chinese support. They assume that they themselves would lead the nation and enjoy power and opportunities through Chinese support. But there will be a pay-back period. The support is not for free. The Malay leaders will be like Nizar (Jamaluddin) when he was Menteri Besar of Perak - mere puppets.

The non-politically educated Malays feel ashamed that they have to be helped. They would like to be recognised as people who succeeded on their own. If we study these people almost invariably they have benefited from the NEP. They appear to be ashamed of this.

They are ashamed to admit that they were unable to compete with the other races. I am not ashamed to admit that I cannot compete with the Chinese and Indian students when studying medicine. They had much better results than me and the other six Malay students for entry into the Medical College. Even at that time the British promised to the Rulers to help educate the Malays. I had my chance because of the affirmative action then. On pure merit I would not be a doctor today, not because I was not qualified, but my qualification was lower than others.

One has to remember that the Chinese civilisation is more than 4000 years old. No other civilisation has lasted that long. Naturally they have developed a culture better able to survive under all conditions. It is my belief that if the percentage of Chinese in the United Kingdom for example is the same as in Malaysia, UK would be better developed than it is now. It is not surprising that the Chinese excel in developing Malaysia (for which they are amply rewarded).

It is not shameful to lose out against them. Simply to catch up with them we need handicaps. To be given handicaps is to ensure fairness, not discrimination. That is why in golf you have handicaps. That is why in all contests there must be equality between the contestants.

It is selfish if having benefited from the handicaps you want to deny others from having them.

But when all is said and done, those who are given the benefits of handicaps must make honest efforts to use them properly. If they don't then they must forfeit the handicaps in the future.

Hannah Montana: Emily Osment Made "All The Right Wrongs"

Hannah Montana: Emily Osment Made "All The Right Wrongs"
Miley Cyrus isn't the only chart-topper inHannah Montana, as her co-star Emily Osment has also achieved that status for her music.  The 17-year-old singer has just released her EP, titled All the Right Wrongs, last week and already it's hitting the high notes.  As of now, it's #1 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart and gaining even more fame.

On her official website, Emily Osment posted a video of herself talking about what All the Right Wrongs means to her.  She discussed which one was her favorite among those songs she wrote personally, even though all the tunes connect with her on a deeper level.

Here's the clip of the Hannah Montana starlet talking about how much her songs have been helping her develop into who she is now.

Emily Osment also allowed herself an interview with Eggplante!, wherein she truly delves into the making of her EP and everything she had to go through for its success.  First off, there's why she named it All the Right Wrongs.

"When it comes to naming your album, you really wanna think about it and I didn't want to go the self-title route just because that's boring, and I am far from boring!" she exclaimed.  "It's gotta be cool!"

Most of the songs in All the Right Wrongs, she explained, were about one's struggle to survive being a teenager and growing up.  "[I] f you can survive high school, you can survive anything," she added.

Now, Emily Osment's music is hardly anything like the bubblegum pop of Miley Cyrus'.  It's simply because this musician has decided that Disney just wasn't the right path for her.

"I'm not gonna hold back and this is my music and music is about being true to myself, and I felt like if I was restricting myself and what I want to say in my record, I felt like going with Disney would be the wrong move for me," Emily said.  "They're a wonderful company and I've worked with them for four years and they're amazing people, but when it comes to music, I'm kind of creating another road here and I wanna go with another company."

That might be the case, but there will always be people comparing her to Miley Cyrus.  Emily Osment is simply has a completely different style in her album, and she's definitely proud of that.

"You know, you're gonna get judged, so it's just like, listen to it, you know?" Osment said.  "People are going to say what they want to say, it's alright, write a song about it, it's okay!"

Song causes a buzz

KUALA LUMPUR: Two days ago, media companies received an intriguing package containing a CD with a song entitled Through My Window, a website URL everyoneconnects.net and a cryptic message “open for collaborations”.
The catchy song was heard on major radio stations yesterday and DJs began talking about it. Almost everyone wanted to know more about the song and the singers behind it.
As expected, the wave hit microblogging service Twitter. ‘Twitterville’ is abuzz with DJs tweeting about the song and followers re-tweeting, discussing and adding their comments. The tweets range from what they felt about the song to what everyoneconnects.net might be.
Intriguing package: While some think it may be a marketing ploy to promote a new band, others believe it to be a new social movement because of the website’s name.
Some radio listeners who called in thought it may be a marketing ploy to promote a new band. Others believe it to be a new social movement because of the website’s name. And according to a trusted source via Facebook, “Through My Window could be a part of something bigger”.
Several callers asked about the artistes in the song because there is no indication that they are local or foreign singers. A few radio stations and blogs have launched a hunt for more clues and the public is welcome to give opinions.
Media Prima Radio Networks COO Seelan Paul said in a telephone conversation: “I wouldn’t be surprised if local acts are behind it because there is so much talent in the Malaysian music scene.”
As a result of all the attention given to the song, its website registered 3,988 hits as of 11pm yesterday. Enquiries were made but no clues are emerging.

Katie Holmes Won The War For Her Daughter Suri's Soul, At Least For Now

Source: The Gutter Post

Mommy zombie no more? Katie Holmes somehow convinced Tom Cruise to enroll their daughter Suri Cruise in a Boston Catholic pre-school which of course is not a Scientologist school. Rumors were Tom and Katie Holmes were in a heated battle over what school their daughter, Suri Cruise, should attend. It seems Cruise wants his daughter to follow his religion of "Scientology" and Katie wants Suri to be raised in a "Catholic" setting as she was. The battle lines have been drawn and it looks like Katie Holmes can claim victory. Suri Cruise will begin attending Catholic School soon. Clearly Katie has a set of incriminating photos of Tom having gay sex with a firefighter locked away in a safe somewhere. Tom and Katie have been rumored to be fighting quite a bit over their differing Religions. Look for more heated battles to come in the future. The Daily Mail report:
The Church of Scientology has always been a bone of contention between the couple and Tom wanted three-year-old Suri to be raised a Scientologist. But last week Katie enrolled the toddler at the Catholic Charities Yawkey Centre For Early Education And Learning in Boston, Massachusetts. The family are living in the city while Tom, 47, films his new movie, the spy comedy thriller Wichita. Katie’s mother also flew in for her granddaughter’s first week at the pre-school.

"Katie has been listening to her parents who are devout Catholics," I’m told. "She is not convinced by Scientology and has told Tom that she wants Suri to be educated as a Catholic - as she was. They had been having huge problems agreeing on her school. To say they were having arguments is putting it mildly - but Tom came around to the idea in the end."

Holmes, 30, has not been seen at the Church of Scientology for more than five months.

Tom and Katie have been rumored to be fighting quite a bit over their differing Religions. So it is good to see Katie putting her foot down about something as important as religion. At least now, instead of being brainwashed by a ridiculous Hollywood celebrity cult that teaches about spaceships, aliens, and mind-control, Suri will be taught about something much more believable like a guy who was conceived without sex, came back to life three days after being killed, and then nailed 72 virgins in Heaven. Wait, I think I'm mixing my religions again... Katie was one of the cutest actress in Hollywood before she hooked up with Tom, and becamemommy zombie. Damn you Tom Cruise for doing whatever you did to Katie! Here are a few pictures of Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, and Suri out and about in Boston earlier this month. Click on pictures to enlarge.

Thomas Cruise Mapother IV (pronounced /ˈtɒməs ˈkruːz ˈmeɪpɒθɚ/; born July 3, 1962 in Syracuse, New York, U.S.A.), better known by his screen name Tom Cruise, is an American actor and film producer. Forbes magazine ranked him as the world's most powerful celebrity in 2006. He has been nominated for three Academy Awardsand won three Golden Globe Awards. His first leading role was the 1983 film Risky Business, which has been described as "A Generation-X classic, and a career-maker" for the actor. After playing the role of a heroic naval pilot in the popular and financially successful 1986 film Top Gun, Cruise continued in this vein, playing a secret agent in a series of Mission: Impossible action films in the 1990s and 2000s. In addition to these heroic roles, he also played other roles, such as the misogynistic male guru in Magnolia (1999) and a cool and calculating sociopathic hitman in the Michael Mann crime-thriller film Collateral (2004).
Economist Edward Jay Epstein argues that Cruise is one of the few producers (the others being George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and Jerry Bruckheimer) who are able to guarantee the success of a billion-dollar movie franchise. Since 2005, Cruise and Paula Wagner have been in charge of the United Artists film studio, with Cruise as producer and star and Wagner as the chief executive. Cruise is also known for his support of and adherence to the Church of Scientology.

Katherine Noelle "Katie" Holmes (born December 18, 1978 in Toledo, Ohio, USA) is an American actress who first achieved fame for her role as Joey Potter on The WB television teen drama Dawson's Creek from 1998 to 2003.

Holmes' part on the show, only her second professional role, made her a star. Her movie roles have ranged from art house films such as The Ice Storm to thrillers such as Abandon to blockbusters such as Batman Begins but she has said many of her films were "bombs."
In early 2005 Holmes began a highly publicized relationship with actor Tom Cruise, sixteen years her senior. In June, two months after they first met, she became engaged to Cruise. Their relationship made Holmes the subject of international media attention, much of it negative, including speculation the relationship was a publicity stunt to promote the couple's films. Many reports commented negatively about the interest of Holmes, raised Roman Catholic, in Cruise's religion, Scientology. The couple announced Holmes was pregnant in October 2005; on April 18, 2006, she gave birth to Suri Cruise. On November 18, 2006, she and Cruise were married in Italy.
